In Other Times
A Conference on the occasion of the 25th anniversary of the city partnership between Berlin–Prague
Location Comenius Garden Berlin
Time 10./11.06. 2020
Deadline 15.11.2019
The Werkstatt des Wissens is a cooperation between the Max-Planck Institute for the History of Science in Berlin-Dahlem and the Comenius Garden in Berlin-Neukölln. The program provides scientists and children the opportunity to research a particular theme together for several years. For the previous two years this theme has been time. During the research the children follow their own questions, while the adults pursue their interests in the history of science. Freedom is given to both to follow their own stimulations in researching. This creates a serious process whereby historians receive new suggestions for understanding past knowledge and children claim their autonomy.
We invite academics of all disciplines who believe that children’s knowledge can strengthen science to participate in a conference in Berlin (10-11.6.20). We welcome all contributions presenting original research on the topic of time. Presentations must not be limited to history and philosophy. The fields of literature, linguistics, and cultural studies, as well as physics and other natural sciences are welcome to contribute their unique research perspectives on time. The conference wishes to be a platform for constructive exchange on the various ways of understanding and representing time. In this way, the research of the Werkstatt des Wissens will be contextualized within the history of science.
We invite potential participants of all academic backgrounds to submit papers for 20-minute presentations. Proposals should be in the form of a brief exposé (max. 300 words, German or English, including biographical note). Please send as PDF by email to Neele Illner (comenius-garten@t-online.de). The deadline for proposals is 15.11.19. Lectures will be given in German, Czech, and English (with simultaneous translation).
We are happy for this call to be forwarded to any potential participants or interested parties!
