Assistant Professor position in the history of the Islamic world, to begin in Fall 2020

Specialization may be in any period or region of the Islamic world and/or Muslim communities elsewhere in the work including the Americas, Africa, and the Black Diapora. We seek candidates whose research and teaching contribute to the department theme of "Empires, States and Borders." Experience in digital humanities and public history in especially welcomed. The successful candidate must demostrate their ability to work with and sensitive to the educational needs of diverse urban populations and support the University's commitment to thrive as a Hispanic Serving Instituation and a model for student success.
Responsibility include a 2:2 teaching load of undergraduate and masters-level courses related to the area of expertise, while conducting an active program of research that contributes to scholarship in the field. Additionally, faculty will serve on departmental committees and offer university service. Applicants must have completed the PhD. by the start of the appointment.
Review of application with begin on October 14, 2019; and complete application must include 1.) a letter of application that addresses your interest in and qualifications for the position; 2.) a current curriculum vitae; 3.) a short personal statement on research, teaching, and discussion of the role diversity and inclusion plays in an academic environment (1-2pages); and 4.) a sample syllabus for an introductory survey course on Islamic History. At a later stage in the search process you will be asked to submit three latters of reference and a writing sample.
