James McGovern Announcement
Announcement Type
Call for Publications
Subject Fields
Literature, Humanities, Cultural History / Studies, Linguistics, Fine Arts

We invite proposals for monographs and collections of essays for our Series in Literary Studies. The series welcomes proposals on a wide range of topics related to literature and literary research. We are interested in work that is relevant to contemporary issues and debates, though we will also consider work that revisits classic debates in literary studies or takes an interdisciplinary perspective. We are particularly interested in books on English Literature, although we are open to proposals which examine any type of world literature.

Some of the books in the series include: The Picturesque, The Sublime, The Beautiful: Visual Artistry in the Works of Charlotte Smith and The Poetics of Fragmentation in Contemporary British and American Fiction, among others.

The scope of the present call is broad. Possible topics include (non-comprehensive list): Female writers in English Literature, Origins of the English Language, Medieval literature, Literary objects/Material culture, Ecopoetics, Mass media and popular culture, Early modern theatre, Post-colonial literature, Writing lives, Modernism/post-modernism, Literary theory, Close/distant reading techniques; practical criticism.

Past works in the series have engaged with current debates and key topics in literary studies. Nevertheless, the series is also open to high quality works that may be elsewhere seen as too theoretical or too specialized to merit publication. Contributions from both established and younger scholars from all parts of the world are welcome. More information on what we look for in a proposal is available on our website.

If you have an idea for a book-length writing project in Literary Studies, or if you would like to edit a multi-author book with us, we would be delighted to hear from you.
