Consortium on the Revolutionary Era, 1750-1850

Annual Meeting

Tallahassee, FL, February 27-29, 2020

Doubletree Hotel, Tallahassee, Florida

Sponsored by Florida State University

Deadline for Submission: November 1, 2019

Florida State University will be hosting the annual conference of the Consortium on the Revolutionary Era, 1750-1850, in Tallahassee, at the Doubletree hotel. The Consortium (CRE) provides a venue for the presentation of original research on any topic related to the period 1750-1850 in any geographical location. Although historians of Europe and the Atlantic World are a large, regular presence in the Consortium, we welcome presentations from professors, graduate students, and independent scholars working in a variety of disciplines, from a variety of comparative perspectives.

2020 marks the fiftieth anniversary of the Consortium: an ideal moment for reflecting on the past and future of the field. To celebrate this occasion, the CRE is waiving the registration fees for graduate students, adjunct faculty, independent scholars, and retirees.

This year’s keynote speakers will be Marcela Echeverri, Associate Professor of History at Yale University; Christy Pichichero, Associate Professor of History at George Mason University; and Eric Weider, owner of Gallery 19c in Beverly Hills, California.

We welcome proposals for full conference sessions including both standard sessions (three twenty-minute papers, plus a chair and a commentator) and roundtables (five or six ten-minute presentations). We will also consider individual paper proposals and will work to construct sessions out of those.

Session proposals should include a panel description (if applicable), a brief abstract for each paper (no more than one page), and a brief CV for each participant (no more than 2 pages.) Proposals from graduate students are welcome. Please submit proposals to Ronen Steinberg at ronens@msu.edu by November 1, 2019.

Reservations should be made at the Doubletree Hotel, located at 101 S. Adams St., Tallahassee, FL  32301, which will serve as the conference hotel. Make your reservation online at Tallahassee Doubletree, or by phone at 1-877-800-2652. Make sure to include the reference group code CO1 or mention the Consortium in order to get the discount rate, which will be $124.00 per night, plus tax. The deadline for reserving a room at the discount group rate is January 31, 2020. Tallahassee Airport is served by American, Delta, and Silver Airlines.

For more information about the CRE and the conference, visit the CRE Website. We are aware that the website is not yet updated with the information about the 2020 meeting. We have encountered some technical difficulties, and we are working to resolve the issue. This need not impede you from sending your proposals. Feel free to contact Rafe Blaufarb at rblaufarb@fsu.edu, or Ronen Steinberg at ronens@msu.edu with any questions.
