The Department of History at California State University-San Bernardino (CSUSB) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track, Assistant Professor of United States history, with preference given to experience in California single subject teaching requirements and public history.  The successful candidate will be part of the second cohort of tenure-track faculty hired for the Palm Desert branch of CSUSB beginning in September, 2020. 

California State University, San Bernardino is located in San Bernardino in the Inland Empire, 60 miles east of Los Angeles.  CSUSB offers programs through the colleges of Arts and Letters, Business and Public Administration, Education, Natural Sciences, Social and Behavioral Sciences and operates a satellite campus in Palm Desert located in Coachella Valley.  CSUSB serves approximately 20,700 students and offers 47 undergraduate, 35 graduate and one doctoral degree as well as 13 programs with national accreditation.

Typical Activities:  

The successful candidate for this position is expected to teach and develop upper and lower division courses on United States history, including courses dealing with teaching methods in history, and public history.  The candidate will also be expected to work with the main campus in overseeing the Social Sciences CSET-waiver program. 

The Department of History offers courses across all areas of the world and temporal time periods.  Courses are offered in the areas of African, Asian, European, Latin American, Middle Eastern, and United States history.  Courses are often integrative and are constantly updated to reflect new areas of interest and faculty expertise.  The department also houses a precredential and public history program that offers core professional development courses and practical employment opportunities for students.

The successful candidate is expected to hold a PhD in History or related field by time of appointment, provide evidence of effective teaching, high-quality scholarly research, and be able to provide service to the university and the community.  Salary will be commensurate with background and experience.  CSUSB actively encourages qualified applicants to apply who demonstrate a commitment to serving a diverse student population and advancing student success through highly engaged, high impact educational practices.   .
