Edited by John Solomos, the Routledge Encyclopedia of Race and Racism aims to provide a constantly updated and comprehensive resource for both students and researchers who want to understand key concepts, methods, and topics regarding race and racism across the disciplinary fields of sociology, politics, history, geography, anthropology, ethnic studies and cultural studies. In this regard, the style of invited contributions should reflect the aim to appeal to a broad audience of academics, researchers, practitioners, and students working in a variety of disciplines where questions of race and racism are studied and analysed.

The section 'Anti-Racism/Mobilisations and Resistance' is edited by myself and co-edited by Maria Elena Indelicato. The aim of this section is to provide the reader with an overview of some of the main themes and debates in antiracism from a global perspective. It will combine longer pieces with shorter reflections and biographical entries to build up a complex overview.

With these objectives in mind, we have arranged for 30 entries to be written by academic experts and anti-racism activists on topics as varied as:

  • Anti-slavery Movement;
  • Black Radicalism;
  • Prison Abolition;
  • Police Brutality;
  • Black Lives Matter;
  • Indigenous Sovereignty and The United Nations;
  • Aboriginal resistance in Australia;
  • Palestinian Resistance;
  • and Dakota pipeline access protests

On the basis of its historical importance, we are looking for a contributor willing to author an Average Topic (2500-3500 words) on the theme of the Civil Rights Movement.

If you are interested in writing this entry, you should consider that we would like for this entry to recount the history of the movement in ways that centre the role of women beyond respectability. We would also much appreciate if this entry could touch upon the legacy of the Civil Rights Movement from the 1960s onwards.

The deadline for the receipt of contributions is 2 December 2019.

Both Maria Elena and I are available to discuss your contribution with you. In the first instance, please do not hesitate to contact us at antiracism.enclycopedia@gmail.com  to discuss your ideas for the entry. We would also be happy to liaise with you via Skype or similar.

Yours in solidarity,

Alana Lentin and Maria Elena Indelicato
