(English) Call “LASA Award Mexico 2020 for the book in Social Sciences.”

The aim of this award is to recognize the most outstanding and original book related to the study of Mexico published between September 01, 2018 and August 31, 2019. The prize consists of US $ 1,000 (US dollars) and a certificate. The award will be announced during the LASA Mexico Section meeting during the annual conference, which will take place in Guadalajara, Mexico in May 2020. The authors of the nominated books will be informed of the results between the 1st and the 15th of April 2020. The prize of US $ 1,000 will be given to only one winner, being the same amount of US $ 1,000 regardless of the number of authors. Honorary mentions may be awarded to other works at the discretion of the committee. The decision of the committee, once announced to the authors, is final and unappealable. The authors of the works must meet the following eligibility criteria:

• The texts must be published by a university or scholarly press. They cannot have more than three co-authors. Books must be written in English or Spanish.
• The disciplines in social sciences include (but are not limited to): politics, history, sociology, international studies, law, migration studies, anthropology and economics, among others (Except Humanities). Historians may choose whether to submit their book for consideration in either the social sciences or humanities (but not both), based on the closest methodological fit.

• We will be allowing any books published from September 01, 2018 and August 31, 2019. Translations of books published before 2019, extended versions, reprints or any new version of a work published before 2019 are NOT eligible for this year’s competition.
• Although it is not a requirement to be a member of the Latin American Studies Associationand the Mexico Section to participate in this call, it is strongly recommended that all participants join.

• Please send a copy of the book to each of the committee members at the addresses listed. If the publisher is unable to send a physical copy of the book, the submission should be sent electronically to all committee members in PDF format, without a password. The PDF must be a scanned or electronic version of the final edition (that is, the version published)

• All submissions must be made no later than october 30, 2019, together with the nomination letter, to the committee members:

(Español) Convocatoria “Premio LASA México 2020 para el libro en CienciasSociales.”

El objetivo de esta premiación es reconocer el mejor libro destacado y original relacionado con el estudio de México publicado entre septiembre 01, 2018 y agosto 31, 2019. El premio consiste en US$1,000 (US dolars) y un diploma. El premio se anunciará durante la reunión de la Sección México de LASA durante el congreso anual, que tendrá lugar en Guadalajara, México en mayo 2020. Los/as autores/as de los libros nominados serán informados del resultado entre el 1o y el 15 de abril del 2020. El premio de US$1,000 es único, y será entregado a uno solo ganador/a, siendo la misma cantidad de US$1,000 sin importar el número de autores. Se podrán otorgar menciones honoríficas a otros trabajos a discreción del comité. La decisión del comité, una vez anunciada a los autores/as, es definitiva e inapelable.

Los/as autores/as de los trabajos deben cumplir los siguientes criterios de elegibilidad:• Los textos deben ser publicados por una universidad o una editorial. No pueden tener más de tres coautores/as. Los trabajos deben estar escritos en inglés o español, o proveer una traducción al inglés o español si están escritos en otras lenguas.• Las disciplinas en ciencias sociales incluyen (pero no se limitan a): política, historia, sociología, estudios internacionales, derecho, estudios sobre migración, antropología, economía, entre otros (Exceptuando Humanidades). Los historiadores pueden elegir si presentar su libro para premio en ciencias sociales o en humanidades (pero no en ambas), según el enfoque metodológico más cercano

• Podrán participar los libros publicados de septiembre 01 de 2018 a agosto 31 de 2019. Las traducciones de libros publicados antes de 2019, reimpresiones, versiones ampliadas, reediciones o cualquier nueva versión de una obra publicada antes de 2019 NO son elegibles.

• Si bien no es réquisito ser miembro de la Latin American Studies Association y de la Sección México para participar en esta convocatoria, se recomienda inscribirse como miembro a todos participantes.

• Envíe una copia del libro a cada uno de los miembros del comité a las direcciones que se indican. En caso de no ser posible, los envíos deberan de ser remitidos a todas las direcciones eletrónicas de los miembros del comité en formato PDF, sin contraseña. El PDF debe ser un escaneado o versión electrónica de la edición definitiva (es decir, la versión de hecho publicada).

• Todos los envíos deben ser hechos a más tardar el 30 de octubre de 2019, junto con la carta de nominación, a los miembros del comité:
