With this Call for Papers for a special issue of The Southern Quarterly, we want to encourage scholars and public historians at any stage of their career to submit a contribution in which they discuss projects that make use of digital methods and techniques to analyze an aspect of Southern History and Culture. We are accepting scholarly articles based on original research; essays analyzing broader trends in Digital Southern History; as well as presentations of ongoing (public) history projects that are steeped in the digital world. Articles can vary in length, but should not be more than 7,500 words (notes and bibliography included). The use of visual materials is encouraged. The special issue will be edited by Professor Vernon Burton and Dr. Jozefien De Bock (Clemson University). Publication is scheduled for Summer 2020.
