Preregistration is now open for the 85th annual meeting of the Southern Historical Association, convening in historic Louisville, Kentucky from November 7 through November 10, 2019. With daily panel sessions at the humane hours of 9:30a and 2:30p, "The Southern" is an intellectually vibrant and convivial conference that provides plenty of time for mentorship, networking with colleagues, meeting with friends, and seeing the historical sites.
Register early to save money! The preregistration fee is $40 for members and $70 for nonmembers, with attending spouses registered for free. Preregistration closes on October 20, 2019. On-site registration rates increase to $60 for members and $85 for nonmembers; attending spouses can register for free. Both preregistration and on-site registration is $5 for students.
Consider becoming a member today! The Southern Historical Association was organized on November 2, 1934 and charged with promoting an "investigative rather than a memorial approach" to southern history. Its objectives are the promotion of interest and research in southern history, the collection and preservation of the South's historical records, the encouragement of state and local historical societies in the South, and the teaching and study of all areas of history in the region. Dues are among the lowest of any major professional organization (student dues are only $20/year) and reflect the organization's emphasis on promoting open participation and exchange of ideas.
