The Jacobite Studies (JST) announces a conference on "Jacobitism and War", to be held in Florence, Italy, on 22-24 May 2020.

The JST invites papers and panel proposals connecting the themes of Jacobitism, anti-Jacobitism or fear of Jacobitism with diplomatic, military and naval history in Europe and beyond, from the Revolution of 1688 to the end of the 18th century. The JST also welcomes proposals that deal with any aspect of the threat and actuality of Jacobite rebellion in England, Ireland, Scotland and Wales, as well as proposals that focus on the Jacobites' impact on British grand strategy and warfighting. Topics in art history, gender history, court studies or literary and cultural studies that bear on any of these topics are particularly encouraged.

The deadline for submission of proposals is 24 September 2019.  Paper proposals should include a title and a 200-word abstract plus a brief c.v. (maximum one page). Proposals for a full or partial panel should also include a panel title plus two or three individual paper proposals. The JST will provide panel chairs. Each paper will be allotted 20 minutes of time, followed at the end of each session by questions from the audience.

Paper and panel proposals should be emailed as attached Word or pdf files to Professor Daniel Szechi at danielszechi@gmail.com and Dr Andrew Barclay at abarclay@histparl.ac.uk.

Please note that, because of space considerations, enrollment for the conference is limited to 35 people. Online enrollment for attendees, whether presenters or non-presenters, will be opened through Eventbrite on 10 September 2019.

Enrollment fees:

Attendance only: 27 euros.

Attendance plus meals (2 lunches, 1 dinner): 130 euros.

Further information on enrollment, conference events, attendance fees and hotel accommodation can be found on the JST website at http://www.jacobitestudiestrust.org/activities.html.
