The Asian Literature and Culture Session at PAMLA 2019 welcomes proposals for papers on a wide variety of topics that deal with "Asia" and "literature and culture", broadly conceived. Papers may deal with a range of historical periods (premodern, modern, etc.) and regions (East, Southeast, South, Central, West, etc.). "Literature and culture" can include literature to start but also media such as film, theater, and art.
Particular consideration will be granted to papers that engage with the 2019 conference theme of "Send in the Clowns", though the Asian Literature and Culture Session aims to put in conversation papers that analyze issues of power and ideology from multiple theoretical perspectives that apply to both similar and heterogenous sociopolitical contexts.
