Materials and Technologies in the Age of Transition: The Byzantine, Sasanian and Islamic Near East

We are delighted to announce that the symposium ‘Materials and Technologies in the Age of Transition: The Byzantine, Sasanian and Islamic Near East’ will be held at Wolfson College (Oxford) on 10 and 11 July 2019. The symposium aims to bring together the perspectives of materials scientists and art historians on the transition from late antiquity to Islam. The programme will include panels on Glass, Ceramics, Metallurgy, Mining and Stonework, Manuscripts and Textile. Speakers and panel chairs will include Anna Muthesius, Brian Gilmour, Oliver Watson, St John Simpson, Matthew Collins, Moujan Matin, Seth Priestmann, Alain George, Nadine Schibille, Matthew Ponting, Elise Morero and Hero Granger-Taylor.
