The History Department of the College of Charleston invites applications for three visiting assistant professorships in History to begin the Fall semester of 2019.  Position is for one year. The successful candidate will teach four sections of the 100-level general education requirement each semester, i.e., pre-modern history (pre-1500) and/or modern history (post-1500).  The general education classes are organized thematically, around the professor’s academic interests, where appropriate. There may be opportunities to teach upper-division courses. Preference is for candidates who can teach the pre-modern courses, but applicants in all fields are welcome. All requirements for the Ph.D. in History must be completed at the time of appointment. The College of Charleston is the nation’s 13th-oldest institution of higher learning and is located in the heart of historic Charleston, South Carolina.
