CALL FOR REVIEWS. Literary Cartographics, a new pedagogical and multidisciplinary online product, is now being beta-tested and seeks reviews and comments from scholars in literature, geography, history, cultural, and world studies. Literary Cartographics are hand-crafted maps depicting literary locations with clickable pop-up editorial pages that explain the location’s significance. The collection of maps is a teaching aid that allows students to locate and learn about the sense of place and time in literary works.

We have assembled 20 map/literature titles, from Huckleberry Finn to Darkness at Noon, at the following website, which is available only until May 1 with the following user name and password:

www.cartographics.online
User: carto
Password: Carto62 [cap C]

We are developing another 20 map/literature titles, based on undergraduate curriculum, and are seeking input on what has been created so far, as we continue the product development process. We are seeking answers to the following questions, so please address your comments to these points:

1.    Functionality. The website is best displayed and used on a laptop, desktop, or tablet (iPad), but does not work without enlargement on a smart phone. We expect most students are studying on laptops, desktops, or tablets, and not phones. Would that be correct? Are there other functionality issues you see?
2.    Locations. The locations selected for the pop-up pages are not cast in stone. We are open to input about other locations to feature, while recognizing technical and cost considerations.
3.    Editorial. Our academic editors have reviewed the website’s content and are open to peer commentary on what works and what doesn’t in terms of which literary titles to map. Are there literary works you would recommend be mapped in this manner?
4.    As currently built, and considering an additional 20 titles will be added as the database grows, would you recommend to your school or university librarian that Literary Cartographics be added to the library’s subscription services?
