This stream explores the ways in which film, photography, advertising, and screen culture have been mobilized to advance a populist politics. What kind of iconic images have contributed to the rise of populist movements of both sides of the political spectrum? If the idea of the working class is at the centre of populism, how is the worker represented today in racial and gender terms? Is there a difference between the imagery of Old and New Populism? We are interested in both historical and contemporary perspectives. The stream welcomes contributions from across the disciplines, and from a variety of ideological and analytic approaches.
