Embracing Multilingualism across Educational Contexts

Translanguaging Aotearoa (http://translanguaging.nz) seeks to bring together the vast expertise in multilingual education for a one-day symposium in Aotearoa New Zealand. The Convenors invite academics, researchers, practitioners and community participants to submit an abstract to present and attend.
Keynote Speakers:
Dr. Tauwehe (Sophie) Tamati (University of Auckland) and Dr. Kerry Taylor-Leech (Griffith University)
We will also be launching the edited volume Embracing Multilingualism across Educational Contexts (2019, Victoria University Press, Edited by Corinne Seals and Vini Olsen-Reeder) at the symposium.
Cost: $25 (waged); $15 (unwaged & students). Includes entry and food.
Themes of interest include (but are not limited to):
- Translanguaging in education
- Models of language education that support heritage language maintenance
- Inclusion of heritage language support in “mainstream” classrooms
- Support of Indigenous languages through multilingual models of education
- Support of immigrant languages through multilingual models of education
- The relationship between immersion education and translanguaging
- Fluid multilingual models of education in all models of schooling
- Community experiences with translanguaging and other models of multilingual education
- Policy and planning perspectives on translanguaging and other models of multilingual education
Guide for Authors:
Abstract length: 250 words maximum, excluding references
Deadline to submit to Convenors: 31 March 2019
Acceptance Notification: by 30 April 2019
