The institute’s summer programme will be anchored by an impressive number of senior scholars from Africa and the global who will be engaging a wide range of themes and designed to deepen the understanding of research and teaching mission in the academy.
The facilitators will lead discussions on various conceptual, methodological and theoretical topics central to their various fields of interest, including tools of research in the field of humanities and social science, networking techniques and ethical principles of the profession. Each invited doctoral and post-doctoral fellow will be expected to work on a project in his or her current research and to develop new networks of scholarships which are critical for career success. Testimonies of Past Fellows
“I can tell you, as a PhD student that has just finished coursework, that this is the same quality of work that I have been doing for the past two years at Boston. I truly pray that everybody here has truly taken this stuff to heart because it is so, so important. This year, we were three Kenyans. Last year, there was one Kenyan. And next year, there will be ten Kenyans, and after that, we pray that we will move the institute to Kenya.” -- Shose Otieno, 2018 Fellow, Boston University, USA.
“Ife summer Institute has been a wonderful experience for me. As a person just coming into academia, I was blank and did not know what to do. Within these two weeks, I now know what to do; I now have a focus, I now have a direction, I now have a mentor!” --Gabriel Asuquo, 2018 Fellow, University of Lagos, Nigeria.
“The IIAS summer institute helped me to develop my professional skills and reignite my motivation to become a top academic in my field…I think every emerging academic should have the opportunity to be trained and mentored as we were at the IIAS in Ile-Ife” --Samantha Lakin, 2017 Fellow, PhD candidate, Strasser Centre for Holocaust and Genocide Studies, Clarks University, USA.
“I am a teacher in research method, but I have learnt so much from this experience… I was able to give back to my students in Kenya at the University of Nairobi”. --Dr. Nkatha Kabira, 2017 Fellow, Lecturer, School of Law, University of Nairobi, Kenya
“The Ife Summer Institute programme effectively reactivated my passion for serious doctoral research”. --Ademola Adesola, 2017 Fellow, PhD candidate, University of Manitoba, Canada.
