We are pleased to announce a call for chapter abstracts for the upcoming edited book Handbook of Research on Developing Engaging Online Courses. This book will be a 25-chapter volume which will be completed this year. It is being published by IGI Global and has tentatively placed this title in the Advances in Educational Technologies and Instructional Design (AETID) book series. We are soliciting abstracts that fit within the current structure of the book. This edited handbook will provide multiple perspectives on improving student engagement and success in online courses. This book will include topics focused on the online learner, online course content, and effective online instruction.
With the growing number of programs and universities offering online education options for students, this topic and collection of writings will offer guidance with developing effective online learning at the higher education level. Book chapters will address relevant online topics including but not limited to:
- Self-regulated learning strategies
- Student motivation
- Course design
- Optimal student engagement
- Performance-based, task-oriented assessments
- Emergent instructional strategies
- Professor training
- Professor engagement
We are looking for abstracts of proposed chapters from 150-250 words that describe the area of focus and its context. All proposals should be emailed to Rob Ceglie (ceglier@queens.edu). The project is being led by Dr. Rob Ceglie, Dr. Dixie Abernaty and Dr. Amy Thornburg; all faculty of Education at Queens University of Charlotte. The deadline for proposals is March 31, 2019.
All authors who are accepted for the volume will be expected to also review one other chapter from the book as part of the peer review process.
The final chapters should be approximately 10,000 words (including notes, references, etc.). Initial drafts of the chapters will be due by August 13, 2019, with revisions returned to contributors six to eight weeks afterward. Final chapters will be due by December 6, 2019, as we intend to submit the full manuscript to the publisher by December 30, 2019.
