CFP: Public History: Institutions, Actors, and Practices (special issue)

The journal Acta Universitatis Carolinae – Studia Territorialia invites authors to submit articles for its 2019 special issue entitled "Public History: Institutions, Actors, and Practices."

Since the late 1970s, public history has slowly emerged as a common, sometimes even ever-present feature of modern life. New legislature concerning historical memory, the rise of various memory institutions, or the increasing relevance of historical themes in international relations as well as in national politics all prove the growing importance of this quickly evolving field for public discussions. The present call for papers aims to solicit original contributions highlighting the broad empirical variety of public history as a specific socio-cultural phenomenon in North America, Europe, and post-Soviet Eurasia.

Suggested subtopics include:

• preserving the past and the lieux de mémoire;
• exhibiting and visualizing the past;
• teaching history;
• intersections between private and public histories;
• reconstructions of historical events;
• public history in the digital age;
• public history-making, history wars, weaponizing history;
• methods and approaches to the study of public history.

The articles are to be written in English and should be ideally 6,000 to 9,000 words long (excluding footnotes and abstract). The contributions should be sent to the editorial team at stuter@fsv.cuni.cz or uploaded via the AUC Studia Territorialia journal management system. The authors should consult the submission guidelines for further instructions and style. All contributions will be subject to double-blind peer-review.

Abstract submission deadline: May 31, 2019. 
Notification on further status: June 15, 2019. 
Article submission deadline: August 31, 2019.

AUC Studia Territorialia is a leading Czech peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on area studies. It covers history, social, political, and economic affairs of the nations of North America, Europe, and post-Soviet Eurasia in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. The journal is published by the Institute of International Studies of Charles University, Prague. It is indexed, i.a., in the EBSCO, ERIH PLUS, and CEEOL databases.
