The Rural, Agricultural, and Environmental Network of the Social Science History Association invites papers for the following panels that have been proposed by network members, and for proposals for additional panels on rural, agricultural, or environmental topics.
Food Security/Food Deserts in Historical Perspective
Health Care in Rural Areas in Historical Perspective
What is Remoteness?
Asian Environmental History
Other RAE topics
We are keen to receive entire panels, consisting of four papers, with panel chair and commentator, but we also invite proposals for roundtables, book sessions, or single papers. You may submit sessions that are full and complete (ie. closed sessions) or sessions with two papers that still have room for an additional paper or two (ie. open sessions).
Applicants submitting single papers are also able to indicate whether they would be interested in presenting their work as a poster, if it does not end up fitting in a regular session.
Note: SSHA is introducing a new submission system this year. Registration within our previous conference submission system will not carry over to the new system - all conference participants will need to register in the new system before submitting session or paper proposals.
You may login to submit a panel or paper directly at (http://ssha2019.ssha.org/).
Graduate Student Travel Awards are available to help offset the cost to graduate students (and the occasional exceptional undergraduate) attending the 2019 conference in Chicago. The deadline to apply for a student travel grant is March 15, 2019, and the application form is available here.
Please contact the Rural, Agricultural, and Environmental Network Representatives with any questions, assistance creating a panel, or help with submissions.
