The ICAS Book Prize
The ICAS Book Prize (IBP) was established in 2004. It aims to create an international focus for academic publications on Asia, thus increasing their worldwide visibility. The biennial ICAS Book Prize is awarded for outstanding English-language works and dissertations on Asia, and has always been organised around broad interdisciplinary bases (Social Sciences and Humanities) rather than traditional geographic or disciplinary compartmentalization.
Starting in 2017, so as to reflect ICAS’ decentralising approach, the IBP now also honours publications in Chinese, French, German, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish (in addition to the original English Edition). Other language editions are due to follow.
Portuguese and Spanish edition of the ICAS-Sephis Publications Prize
The ICAS Book Prize in Portuguese and Spanish is co-organized by ICAS and Sephis in dialogue with several Iberian and Latin American academic institutions. The intention is to disseminate scientific and editorial production in Portuguese and Spanish languages in the field of Asian studies.
May be submitted: monographs or organized volumes, published between August 2014 and December 2018, in the fields of Human and Social Sciences. Not accepted: reference books, anthologies, fiction, poetry, travel books, autobiographies, memoirs, pamphlets, textbooks, exhibition catalogs, as well as translations (into Spanish and Portuguese) of publications originally appeared in other languages.
Future editions of IBP Spanish and Portuguese will award theses and dissertations.
Applications must be submitted only by publishers, until February 18, 2019, through https://icas.asia/en/node/add/ibp-2019-submission
After the electronic registration, 4 printed copies of each publication must be sent to addresses provided by the coordination of the Sephis Program. If the work is pre-selected among the finalists, additional copies may be requested (copies submitted will not be returned). Additional instructions will be shared with the publishers by electronic mail.
