Dear Ladies and Gentlemen,

it is with great pleasure that we invite you to Prof. Dr. Justin Yifu Lin’s (Peking University / former Chief Economist of the World Bank) lecture on “The Economics of China’s New Era” on Monday, January 21st, 2019, from 4-6 pm at Goethe University’s Casino Building (Nina-Rubinstein-Weg 1, 60323 Frankfurt am Main). We celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies (IZO) and the first Goethe Asia Forum Frankfurt. The event is co-organized by IZO, Sustainable Architecture for Finance in Europe (SAFE) and Society for International Development (SID) Chapter Frankfurt. The festivities end with a reception. We ask you to register here:

To celebrate the 10-year anniversary of the Interdisciplinary Centre for East Asian Studies (IZO), Prof. Lin will examine the economics of China’s new era. With the age of Western global dominance coming to an end, it is China’s time to shine. The potential is certainly there, but to realize it, she will have to confront serious challenges, from domestic supply-side reforms to expanding international responsibilities. In his speech, Prof. Lin will critically analyze China’s dual-track transition from a planned to a market economy, focus on recent reforms and their shortcomings and put China’s trajectory in comparative perspective.

Justin Yifu Lin is Dean of Institute of New Structural Economics and Institute of South-South Cooperation and Development and Professor and Honorary Dean of National School of Development at Peking University. He was the Senior Vice President and Chief Economist of the World Bank, 2008-2012. Prior to this, Mr. Lin served for 15 years as Founding Director and Professor of the China Centre for Economic Research (CCER) at Peking University. He is Councillor of the State Council and a member of the Standing Committee, Chinese People’s Political Consultation Conference.

We look forward to celebrating our 10-year anniversary with you.
