Dovetail Labs is a consulting firm founded by academic anthropologists with the mission to bring the insights of social science to the design and development of socially responsible technology. We are seeking a researcher with backgrounds in STS and related fields to prepare an intellectual brief providing a regional overview of the development of artificial intelligence in Singapore. The brief will provide a survey of the state of AI design, development, deployment, and regulation, and a broad review of scholarship published on the social impacts of AI in Singapore.

Compensation will be $2,000 (USD) for a completed brief of approximately 8,000-10,000 words (due January 15, 2019).

The intellectual briefs will contain elements of an annotated bibliography and a literature review. The brief will be descriptive (containing summaries of authors’ arguments) and synthetic (comparing and contrasting works). The brief should familiarize an interdisciplinary group of researchers with a topic so that they understand research trends and major arguments, including mainstream and more peripheral or critical views. Please note that the brief is a summary and description, and not an analysis—it is not intended to provide the brief writer’s opinion, critique, or reflection.

Applications submitted by December 21, 2018 will be given priority.
