We are seeking 1-2 panelists for a panel on discourses of moral insecurity and/or moral superiority in mass media in a transnational Cold War context. One of our papers explores how early Cold War American journalism used images of the UK and Denmark to fuel moral panic surrounding pornography. Our second paper examines responses to immigration, specifically focusing on American-UK comparisons relating to racial policy and outlook between 1948 and 1968. Rather than focusing on comparisons between Eastern and Western nations, this panel seeks to examine tensions and negative images involving allied nations such as the US and the UK. Please send abstract and CV to both Jamie.stoops@lonestar.edu and szepeda@email.arizona.edu. The deadline for AHA submissions is February 15th 2019, so we would like interested panelists to send their abstracts by January 15th.
