Board Game Studies Colloquium XXII “Games on Board: Education, Tradition, Prospect”
The International Society for Board Game Studies invites proposals for its 22nd annual colloquium to be held at Bologna (Italy), in collaboration with the Italian Association of History Teachers, and the Department of Education of the University Alma Mater of Bologna.
The Board Game Studies Colloquium is a platform aimed at bringing together game scholars from all fields, as well as independent researchers, curators, game inventors, collectors and enthusiasts from all around the world.
As indicated in the subtitle “Games on Board: Education, Tradition, Prospect” this year’s theme is on the intersections of games and education in all its aspects, covering the past, present and future. We welcome papers addressing topics related, but not limited, to the role of games in education, in teaching courses, social values, vices and virtues, religion, friendship, social and interpersonal bonds; in short, any aspect of games that carry an educational quality.
Proposals should aim at a 20-minute presentation in English. They should include the
following:
• Title
• Abstract (max. 200 words)
• Author's brief bio, recent publications, institutional affiliations, and academic or
other relevant credentials
They should be sent as an email attachment in pdf format to boardgamestudies22@gmail.com before January 15, 2019. You will be notified if your proposal is accepted by mid-February, in case of which we will ask you to provide a formal abstract of 200 – 500 words by March 15th, 2019.
Presentations will not exceed twenty minutes to allow time for questions and discussion. PowerPoint or Keynote-type slide documents to support your presentation are welcome. Detailed information on travelling to Bologna, accommodation, arrangements for the
cultural events and colloquium dinner, and an online booking facility will be provided
