The Department of History, Political Science, Geography, & Africana Studies, at Tennessee State University, Nashville, Tennessee, announces its 7th Annual Africa Conference scheduled for March 21-22, 2019, on the theme: "Slavery in the African World: Interrogating the Past and Confronting the Present."

The conference will provide a platform from which to explore the institution of slavery in all its varied dimensions, ramifications, and legacies, within the framework of the African/African Diasporic experience. We invite researchers, scholars, and graduate students from various disciplines and the non-academic community to submit abstracts that address old forms of slavery as well as the prevailing manifestations of enslavement.

Each prospective presenter should submit by email an abstract of 500 words or less to Dr. Adebayo Oyebade at aoyebade@tnstate.edu by January 31, 2019. Abstract prepared as Microsoft Word document should include the presenter’s name, title of paper, institutional affiliation, and contact information (mailing address, phone number, and email address).

Mandatory non-refundable registration fees for the conference are:
Regular: $75 by Dec. 31, 2018; & $90 by Feb. 15, 2019 (banquet included).
Graduate Students: $30 by Dec. 31, 2018; & $45 by Feb. 15, 2019 (banquet included).
