The Yiddish Book Center is now accepting applications for the 2018 Translation Fellowship Program.

Now in its fifth year, the Translation Fellowship Program is part of the Center's larger translation initiative to train and mentor a new generation of Yiddish translators and publish newly translated works. Up to ten translation fellows will be selected to receive yearlong mentorship and training to complete book-length projects in Yiddish translation. Each fellow will receive a grant of $5,000 and will attend three two-day workshops at the Center to workshop their writing in a rigorous collaborative environment led by seasoned literary translators and other experts in the field. Applications are due November 15, 2017.

Past fellows have had their fellowship projects published or accepted for publication by literary and university presses and had their work staged by professional theater companies. Other fellows have received prestigious fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the PEN/Heim Translation Fund. Their translations of short fiction and poetry have appeared widely.
