Dear Colleagues:

I am looking for two or three historians to join me on a panel addressing the general theme of "women, gender & nation in 19th century Spanish America" for next year's meeting of the Southern Historical Association/Latin American and Caribbean Section (LACS) in Birmingham, Alabama (Nov. 8-11, 2018).  As the Oct. 1 deadline for proposals is quickly approaching, please contact me within the next week or so  if you are interested in being part of this panel.  Attach a brief (150-200 words) abstract or description of your proposed paper along with a brief (1-2 page) cv that includes your your contact info.  Please be aware that final acceptance into the program depends in part on all panelists being members of LACS; information on how to join can be found at or by contacting Tamara Spike at the University of North Georgia.

While my own paper will focus on the role of women in Colombia's  Liberal Revolution (1850s-60s), I look forward to collaborating with others  working on different  aspects of the theme and countries in the region.
