Proposals are now being accepted for a general symposium on various aspects of Balkan culture, which will be held at the University of Bucharest, June 18-19, 2018. This two-day event is being arranged primarily for the benefit of visiting Creighton University students participating in a study abroad immersion trip, who possess little to no knowledge of the Balkan region. Symposium organizers wish to assemble a diverse and balanced array of native Balkan scholars representing a variety of academic disciplines associated with the Balkans, including (but not limited to) the social sciences, religious history, and the arts (literature, music, graphic, etc.). We wish to attract scholars who can bring objective insights into distinctive and shared aspects of Balkan life and culture, with special emphases on scholars and/or topics that do not necessarily neatly fit into any of the traditional religious and ethnic categories (for additional explanation, please contact Dr. Nicolae Roddy at firstname.lastname@example.org).
Each presenter will receive two nights’ lodging in Bucharest and up to $400 U.S. toward travel expenses to the Symposium (receipts required). In addition, a stipend in the amount of $500 U.S. will be awarded to each presenter upon submission of his or her final edited draft, which will be published in a supplemental issue of Creighton University’s prestigious, peer-reviewed on-line Journal of Religion and Society. Also, selected presenters, upon request, will receive a personalized letter of invitation.
The deadline for submitting proposals is January 15, 2017. Questions and/ or abstract (along with c.v.) may be submitted electronically to panel co-coordinator Dr. Nicolae Roddy, Creighton University, at email@example.com.
