Call for Papers

The Medieval and Renaissance Graduate Student Association of the Ohio State University Annual Conference

Special Colloquium Topic: "Something Sexy: Gender, Sexuality, and Reproduction"

Date: Saturday, 28 October 2017

Abstracts due: 1 October 2017

Studies of premodern cultures – from the early Medieval to the end of the Renaissance – have in the past few decades begun to rethink the embodied experience of the historical subject. This turn has various permutations, including new attention to the (trans)gendered body, the sexual body, and the reproductive body. These bodies are discursively constructed but are also biologically constructed, as the increasing communication between histories of science and intellectual, cultural, and literary histories can attest. The Medieval and Renaissance Graduate Student Association invites papers on any aspect of gender, sex, sexual orientation, reproduction (biological, spiritual, or textual) – broadly construed – in Medieval and Renaissance studies of literature, history, art history, archaeology or any related field of study. We welcome papers from graduate students in any discipline.

We are dedicated to fostering an environment of inclusivity, and we extend particular welcome to students from historically underrepresented, marginalized, and oppressed communities, especially people of color, LGBTQIA+, people of immigrant/non-citizen status, veterans, and persons with disabilities.

Abstracts should be 250-300 word, and should contain no identifying information (institution, name, contact information, etc). Papers should be planned for a 15-20 minute time slot.

Please email abstract submissions to mrgsa.osu@gmail.com by 1 October 2017. In the email, the presenter should include their name, the title of their paper, institutional affiliation, and contact information.

Any questions can be sent to mrgsa.osu@gmail.com.
