We are seeking additional panelists for the Latin American Studies Association (LASA) 2018 congress (May 23-26 in Barcelona). The panel is tentatively titled Rethinking the Making of Money: Mining and Minting in Colonial Mexico and Peru. We are historians seeking to start an interdisciplinary dialogue about the production of money and monetary systems in the colonial Spanish Empire with the ultimate goal of a special journal issue dedicated to this theme. We welcome various methodological and disciplinary approaches including those from art history, history of science, or literary backgrounds. Submissions regarding areas outside of the viceroyalties of Peru and Mexico will also be considered. If interested, please submit a 250-word abstract pertaining to the production of money or monetary systems to the contact email address. Please contact me with questions or requests for additional information.
