LASA Barcelona Panel-Tourism as Colonialism?

Colleagues, 

I am looking to organize a panel for the 2018 Barcelona LASA Congress which considers the question, "is tourism colonialism?"   

Of greatest interest will be carefully developed case studies featuring a clear response to the central question and series of keen observations regarding either the environmental, social and/or cultural significance of tourist centered exchange in the Americas and greater Atlantic world (past and present).

Scholars working on any number of tourism "types" including eco-tourism, sex tourism, heritage tourism, volun-tourism, academic tourism, medical tourism, disaster tourism, etc. are invited to send a one paragraph proposal and brief statement by Monday, August 21, 2017  to:
