WHAT, WHEN, WHERE?
The Symposium "Engagements with Cognitive Poetics" takes place at the University of Bayreuth, 19-21 June 2017.
It is organized by Dr. Natalia Igl (University of Bayreuth, Chair of Modern German Literature) in cooperation with Dr. Lizzie Stewart-Shaw & Benedict Neurohr, MA (University of Nottingham, Centre for Research in Applied Linguistics / Stylistics and Discourse Analysis Reading Group).

STARTING POINT AND AIM
Although cognitive poetics and stylistics approaches are well established within English and American studies, German studies is by comparison rather at the beginning of a more extensive engagement with this field. The three-day symposium constitutes the opening event of the 'Cognitive Poetics Reading Group' at the University of Bayreuth (founded by Dr. Natalia Igl in April 2017). The reading group and symposium aim to connect (junior) researchers from different areas and to further the presence of cognitive poetics and stylistics in German studies.

PROGRAMME
The symposium includes guest lectures by Prof. Dr. Vera Tobin (Case Western Reserve University, Department of Cognitive Science) and Prof. Dr. Karin Kukkonen (University of Oslo, Department of Literature, Area Studies and European Languages), a round-table discussion, paper presentations, as well as joint working sessions with students on MA level.

Please find the detailed info on the programme and venues here.

This event is generously sponsored by the Poetics and Linguistics Association, the Academic Dean of UBT's Faculty of Language & Literature Studies, and the Bavarian Research Foundation.
