Prospero. Rivista di letterature e culture straniere is a printed (ISSN 1123-2684) and open-access publication (E-ISSN 2283-6438) of the Dipartimento di Studi Umanistici dell’Università di Trieste (DiSU), published annually by EUT – Edizioni Università di Trieste, since 1994. It invites contributions about English, American and Anglophone, French and Francophone, German and Germanophone literatures.

Open Access Policy

Since 2011 the journal has been entirely open access, in compliance with Creative Commons Attribution – NonCommercial - NoDerivatives 4.0 International

Aims and Scope

Prospero publishes articles and essays in the field of literary studies which consider texts and textual analysis from a wide hermeneutic, philological and historical perspective. It specifically focuses on literary studies considered in their interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary relationships with other cultural expressions. Special issues devoted to specific themes, proposed by Italian and foreign guest editors, and designed to invite a broad range of interpretation and research alternate with miscellaneous numbers.

Peer Review Process

Prospero has an anonymous referee system that follows a double-blind peer review process as a fundamental means of ensuring high standards of scholarship. The publication policy involves an initial screening by the editor in chief in consultation with the scientific committee and, for essays that pass the initial screening, an evaluation by two external anonymous referees who ensure the originality of content, methodological appropriateness and potential scholarly impact of the articles. In the case of a controversial evaluation, the journal can involve a third external reader, while the editor in chief can take a final decision. All perspective contributors must ensure that their articles have not been previously or are not being simultaneously submitted to other journals or publications. The journal will not accept contributions that are part of MA or PhD dissertations. The editors guarantee the right to privacy to all the parties involved in the publication process. This cultural agenda must be shared by everyone involved in the publication process, especially with regard to the originality and coherence of research, the accuracy in the use of existing scholarship and the indictment of any form of plagiarism. Plagiarism detection software may be used in case of necessity.

Instructions for Authors

Articles can be written in Italian, English, German or French, must be between 6.000 and 10.000 words in length, inclusive of endnotes and works-cited list, and conform to the latest edition of the MLA Style Manual. A shortened style sheet can be requested from the editors. Endnotes should be as brief and as limited in number as possible. An abstract of maximum 250 words in English is also required.
