Accepted for the 2018 NeMLA conference in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, this panel seeks papers proposing ways of reading texts that challenge, permeate, resist, or defy academic "placements" into genre, field, etc. along with readings of such texts. These may take the form of challenges to long-established disciplinary locations of certain texts or of formulating interpretative approaches in response to new (or old) works that operate "out of place," beyond existing categories, or they may take some other, unforeseen forms. Papers should be prepared for 15-20 minutes presentation; abstracts of up to 300 words will be considered until the NeMLA closing date of 30 September, 2017.
A companion creative panel, called Imaginings: Other Places, is meant to complement & interact with this one. Please contact me with questions about how projects could move across & within both panels.
Please contact David M. Spitzer (email@example.com) with abstracts and|or questions.
