Israel in Audio-Visual Culture

Israel often resembles a verb more than a noun, an everlasting process of nation building challenged by threats against its existence, social divisions, and moral hand-wringing.  Approaching its 70th year of independence, Israel's past, present, and future offer conflicting views and inspiring visions.  Between religious and secular life, between Tel Aviv and Jerusalem, between hope and loss, the future and the past, love and death, the Holocaust and memory, sex and gender, daily life and politics, audio-visual texts of high and popular culture often challenge or puzzle the observers of the Jewish State.

For the 22nd issue of IMAGES we seek essays on Israeli culture and on Israel in global cultural perspectives, analyzing how artistic expressions and audio-visual texts explore and participate in the dynamic processes that form Israeli culture, offering keen observations, national performativities, and visionary deconstructions, engaging in demanding intellectual, aesthetic and axiological challenges.

IMAGES is The International Journal of European Film, Performing Arts and Audiovisual Communication.  IMAGES is a double blind peer reviewed journal published twice a year in print and online.  Each publication is a monograph devoted to a selected subject representing an important issue in contemporary audiovisual culture. Articles are mainly devoted to cinema, mass media, photography and performing arts, within the broadly understood context of popular culture and interdisciplinarity, encouraging deep reflection upon contemporary audio-visual trends. "Images" also features original art works. Each issue includes an author gallery presenting works of an outstanding artist commissioned by the editors.  The 22nd volume of IMAGES will feature artists from The Film School of Lodz.

The journal is indexed with and included in INDEX COPERNICUS INTERNATIONAL - IC JOURNALS MASTER LIST; ERIH PLUS; PKP Index; Google Scholar; WorldCat.
