“Thoughtful Branding for Your Thinking: Writing and Publishing Op-Eds and Essays on Celebrities in the Media”

This 4-hour event will include 2-hours of discussion, exercises, and both small-group and full-workshop discussions. Participants should leave with one or more action plans for essays they can write, and how they can publish those essays.

What will you learn in this workshop?

Highlights of the 4-hour workshop are:

  • Introductions

  • What are op-eds and essays, and why write (and produce) them

  • What makes a good essay

  • Finding ideas – current, constant, controversy, counter-intuitive, commonplace

  • Finding markets – online and print publications, blogs, podcasts, websites

  • Building on your branding – social media, mainstream media, public speaking

  • Exercise: come up with one or more ideas for an op-ed or essay; write premise/pitch

  • Meet in small groups to discuss

  • Each group presents its best idea to full workshop

  • Research potential markets online, using big screen
