I am writing to invite interested scholars including relevant graduate students, to consider submitting their research manuscripts to the Journal of South Texas, a scholarly, double-blind reviewed academic journal devoted to the history and heritage of greater Texas. The submission deadline for Fall 2017 issue is July 1, 2017.

Housed at Texas A & M University in Kingsville, the Journal is actively seeking scholarship on all aspects of Texas history, especially projects illuminating the multi-cultural elements of the state’s past and its broad geographical influence. As the preeminent journal of Texas’s cultural history, we strive to publish new work on topics such as women’s history, ethnic history, Texas/borderlands, African American history, and the Mexican-American Diaspora, including examinations of Texas migrants and other relevant immigrant groups. Recently published articles representative of this focus include a multi-cultural study of the urbanization of south Texas before 1950 and a comparative history of alternative Chicano education.

We invite all interested scholars to visit our website at which includes submission guidelines and other information about the Journal and its parent organization, the South Texas Historical Association.

As a growing enterprise, the Journal is also interested in expanding its cohort of manuscript reviewers, especially those with expertise in African American history, the history of health, science, and technology, Mexican history, women’s history, religious history, and transnational topics such as immigration.

Inquiries, manuscript submissions, and other correspondence should be directed to the Journal’s Managing Editor Dr. Alberto Rodriguez ( or Assistant Managing Editor Veronica Duran (
