This residential program is designed for graduate students and exceptional senior undergraduates – regardless of the field of study – who have a particular interest in developing their knowledge and research skills in the core areas of Islamic studies such as methods in the study of Islam, the Qur’an, the Sunnah, Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) and Maqasid al-Shari‘ah (Objectives of Islamic Law and Ethics), Foundations of Belief, Knowledge, and Science, Muslim History and Civilization, and Contemporary Islamic Thought. The program also provides analysis and discussions – in seminar format – on subjects related to Islamophobia, Islamic finance, faith-based wealth building, and Islam in America.

A distinguishing feature of the IIIT Summer Student Program is that it combines faith-based normativity with best academic practices and approaches. The program is characterized by pedagogical innovativeness and academic rigor, while welcoming religious expressions and spirituality.

As a part of their SSP experience, students also attend the IIIT Summer Institute for Scholars, which is held on July 26-29, 2017. More information can be obtained here.

Accommodations for out-of-area students will be provided by the IIIT at a local hotel on a shared basis. In addition, IIIT will pay each student a stipend of $1,000 to cover their living and other expenses, which will be paid in two installments. Students must have their own health insurance coverage. IIIT does not provide health – or any other form – of insurance to students. The program will be held at the IIIT offices in Herndon, VA.
