The International Institute of Islamic Thought (IIIT) is pleased to announce call for applications for our 2nd Annual Pre-Tenure Faculty Workshop, which will be held at IIIT in Herndon, VA, on May 15-16, 2017. The workshop is open to faculty in all disciplines of humanities and social sciences, as long as one of their main areas of focus is teaching about Islam and/or Muslim societies. The IIIT Pre-Tenure Faculty Workshop brings together early career scholars of Islam and tenured faculty mentors for a candid, substantive, and meaningful conversation on various professional and pedagogical aspects as well as challenges of being a pre-tenure scholar of Islam in North American colleges and universities.  Faculty mentors are Walid Saleh, Maria Dakake, and Jonathan Brown. The workshop facilitators are SherAli Tareen and Ermin Sinanovic. In addition to the discussions on navigating tenure-track, teaching Islam in the current socio-political climate, publishing in peer-reviewed venues, and balancing personal and professional life, this year's workshop will include mini-workshops on research in the Qur'anic studies and tafsir by Maria Dakake and Walid Saleh, and another on research in the Hadith and Sunnah by Jonathan Brown. Application deadline is March 1, 2017. Decisions will be made within two weeks of the application. IIIT will cover transportation and accommodation costs for the participants. For full information about the workshop, to read about last year's program and the participants' impressions, and to apply, please visit: http://www.iiit.org/pre-tenure-faculty-workshop-guide.html
