American Historical Association 132nd Annual Meeting

Washington DC; January 4-7, 2018


This panel is seeking to bring together scholars who are working on topics that explore Nostalgia and Consumer Culture in the Twentieth Century.  This panel welcomes papers that deal broadly with the themes of consumption and nostalgia. Some possible topics include (but are not limited to):


  • Food and foodways
  • Industrialization and corporate branding
  • Marketing and advertising
  • Cultural or religious festivals
  • Race and ethnicity
  • Migration and diaspora culture
  • Sports and sports fandom
  • Toys, leisure, and play
  • Holiday traditions and celebrations
  • Multigenerational childhood
  • Public history, museums, and monuments
  • Travel and tourism
  • Space and place
  • Memory


Interested individuals should submit an abstract (up to 500 words) and a brief author biography to Catherine Koonar by February 10, 2017.
