“European Identities: Borders, Walls, and Boundaries”

The European Studies Program at Kennesaw State University in Kennesaw, Georgia, invites participation in its annual European Studies Symposium on “European Identities: Borders, Walls, and Boundaries.” 


This interdisciplinary conference aims to promote exchanges among interdisciplinary scholars active within the field of European Studies and related areas.


Papers and panels are welcome to consider the conference themes literally and/or metaphorically. The goal of this symposium is to examine physical and conceptual boundaries, as well as metaphors of boundaries and walls amongst the nations of Europe. Papers might address the context of Brexit, the refugee crisis, questions regarding the viability of the Schengen Zone, or how economic, social, and cultural factors put into question previously assumed or constructed national, extra-national, and / or post-national relationships.


The committee also encourages submissions by outstanding undergraduate students, per recommendation of a faculty mentor, to participate in an undergraduate research panel.

Please submit 250-word proposals to by February 15th, 2017. If you are submitting as an undergraduate student, please also submit the recommendation by your faculty mentor.


We encourage as-of-yet unpublished submissions, as selected papers will be solicited for publication of an anthology whose projected publication date will be in late 2017 or early 2018.
