The Joel Lane Museum House is proud to present a lecture called “Historic Cemeteries and Our Heritage” by Emily Grant on Thursday, January 19, 2016 at 7:00 pm at the Visitors Center of the Joel Lane Museum House at 160 South Saint Mary’s Street, Raleigh, NC 27603. Admission will be $16 for the general public and $11 for members of the Joel Lane Historical Society. Refreshments will be served. Seating is limited, and advanced payment is required. The City of Raleigh cares for three historic cemeteries: City Cemetery, O’Rorke Cemetery, and Mt. Hope Cemetery. Emily Grant will speak about the importance of these sacred spaces, the stories they tell of Raleigh’s past, and the work being done by Raleigh City Cemetery Preservation, Inc. to restore and upkeep these local treasures. Emily Grant is an RCCP board member. She has a B.A. in Anthropology and Spanish from Tulane University and an M.A. in Museum Education with an emphasis in American History from The George Washington University. She has been the Youth and Family Programs Coordinator at the NC Museum of History for over 20 years. When not planning and implementing programs, festivals, summer camps and workshops at the museum, she loves roaming cemeteries with her husband and two sons.
