Steiner Summer Yiddish Program

A seven-week intensive course in Yiddish language & culture for college students

June 4-July 21, 2017

Apply by February 6, 2017!

Are you a student who’s currently learning Yiddish, or someone without knowledge of Yiddish but with an interest in Jewish history, literature, art, and culture? The Yiddish Book Center in Amherst, Massachusetts is accepting applications for the 2017 Steiner Summer Yiddish Program, a seven-week, tuition-free, intensive language and culture course for college students.

The renowned program offers beginner and intermediate tracks that include three hours of language instruction every morning and an array of Yiddish cultural programs and social activities in a residential setting, including film screenings, workshops, concerts, and a trip to New York City. In the afternoon, beginner students take a course in topics including Central and Eastern European Jewish history, literature, and culture, while intermediate students work as interns for the Center’s ongoing projects in exchange for free housing and a $1,000 stipend. The program is open to undergraduate and graduate students ages 18-26. Students who successfully complete the program are eligible for up to six college credits from University of Massachusetts Amherst.

This year’s program runs from June 4 – July 21, 2017. Applications, including transcripts and two letters of recommendation, are due by February 6, 2017.
