Overview

ICAS and the Harvard Club of Japan are extremely pleased to co-sponsor a screening of the movie Paper Lanterns with live remarks by the film’s director Barry Frechette and producer Peter Grilli. The film tells the little-known story of the twelve American POWs who were killed by the United States’ atomic bomb in Hiroshima in August 1945. It is also the story of Mori Shigeaki, a Hiroshima hibakusha, who was eight years old at the time of the destruction of Hiroshima and who has devoted decades of his life to preserving the legacy of the slain Americans and to creating monuments to their memory. Mori-san is the man whom President Obama embraced so warmly in Hiroshima on May 27 of this year, immediately following the President’s historic speech in the Hiroshima Peace Park.

The bilingual English-Japanese language version of the film will be shown.

Tea and light snacks will be served.
