Proposals for presentations are now being accepted for the 9th Annual Hippocrates Poetry and Medicine Symposium, to be held 10-11 May 2018 at the Poetry Foundation and Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine, Chicago, USA. Held in conjunction with the international Hippocrates Prize for Poetry and Medicine, the symposium attracts scholars from across the globe with broad interests in poetry and the medical humanities. Proposals (up to 500 words, for 15-minute presentations or posters) should address any work at the intersection of poetry and medicine.

The submission deadline is 15 March 2018 and decisions will be made by 29 March 2018.

 

Symposium activities will include a reading by poet Mark Doty at the Poetry Foundation on the evening of 10 May; scholarly presentations and panels on 11 May at the Northwestern University Feinberg School of Medicine campus on 11 May (breakfast and lunch will be provided); the Hippocrates Prize award ceremony and reading of winning entries on the afternoon of 11 May at the Poetry Foundation; and a seminar on “Art, Poetry, and Medicine,” led by Joel Katz, MD, at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, on 11 May.
