Caribe House Press is looking for an author to write the introduction chapter to Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book. This will be the next installment in our Caribe Classics series.
The introduction chapter should be between 4000 and 6000 words, but it is fine to run slightly longer if you have a compelling reason to do so. Ideally, the chapter should include brief information about the author's biography and the book's publication, and then it should focus on major themes in the novel that would be of interest to a modern readership. The Caribe Classics series is marketed largely toward a high school and early college readership, so the introduction chapter should avoid any overtly academic jargon and should instead seek to be accessible and enjoyable to read - while, of course, still maintaining a certain level of academic integrity.
As the introduction author, you will be given full credit for your work and will be featured on the cover of the book. You will also receive one free copy of The Jungle Book as well as the option to purchase additional copies at 50% list price.
To apply, send your CV and a 2-4 page writing sample to info@caribehousepress by October 16, 2016. Your writing sample can be an excerpt from a larger work, and it should demonstrate a writing style commensurate with the style needed for our introduction chapter. Failure to send both a CV and a writing sample will disqualify you from consideration.
