CFP: "Worlds of Exchange: The Utopia and Dystopia in Francophone Literature," MLA 2019 in Chicago (3-6 January 2019).

We invite papers on the role of spaces of exchange and the use of other worlds in the Francophone traditions of utopia and dystopia.  Examinations of idealized and horrific worlds in Francophone science-fiction and graphic novels are especially welcome.  Subtopics can include, but are not limited to :

  • The use of "other worlds" as an intellectual exchange.
  • Exchanges of obscenity and skepticism.
  • Travelling and currency.
  • Exchanges of social hierarchy, privilege, and power.
