CALL FOR PAPERS EARLY DEADLINE: NOVEMBER 15, 2016  

Annual Meeting and Symposium of the Florida Historical Society May 18-22, 2017 On Board the Carnival Cruise Ship Sensation 

THEME:  ISLANDS IN THE STREAM: EXPLORING HISTORY AND ARCHAEOLOGY IN KEY WEST AND COZUMEL   

Please note that The Florida Historical Society has established an  Early Deadline for submission of papers to its 2017 Annual Meeting & Symposium.  The Society will hold its conference on board the cruise ship Sensation, sailing round trip from the Port of Miami to Key West and Cozumel. Tours of historic sites including the Harry S. Truman Little White House and the ancient Mayan city of Tulum are part of the event. The conference program includes two keynote speakers, already selected, and additional panels by submission. Session space is limited.  Please submit proposals by NOVEMBER 15, 2016.   Decisions about inclusion on the program will be made in late November.   Cost for the cruise conference begins at just $699.99 per person which includes the cruise, meals, featured tours, symposium registration, taxes, fees, and port charges, if payment is made by December 31, 2016.    See the Society’s website for more information about the cruise, keynote speakers, and reservations: http://myfloridahistory.org/cruise.  Take advantage of this unique chance to spend five days of travel with friends and colleagues who share your love of Florida history! 

Submission guidelines:  All topics in Florida history are welcome. A committee of Society members will judge all proposed papers/sessions on their value as scholarship or other forms of useful contributions to Florida history.   Presentations should follow the Statement on Standards of Professional Conduct by the American Historical Association.  

 INDIVIDUAL PAPER (20 minutes): send a title, 150-word abstract, and one-page vitae.  THEME PANEL: send a title and brief (150 word) theme description, 150-word abstract for each paper, one-page vitae for each panel member, and suggested discussant.  ROUND TABLE FORUMS OR DISCUSSIONS: send a title and brief (150 word) topic description, list of the participants, and moderator/discussant, with vita.
