Introduction

The first joint International Sociological Association (ISA) Conference for Research Committees RC06 (Family) and RC41 (Population) will bring more than 260 internationally renowned scholars, authors, researchers and students from about 50 countries to Singapore. Over 60 thematic panels will examine issues surrounding the bilateral relationship between family and demographic changes, factors shaping these changes and consequences of these changes. The presentions will cover crucial topics ranging from aging, children and youth, education, family and houshold, fertility, gender, health and mortality, marriage and union, migration ans urbanization, poverty and inequality, and many more.
